PRELOADED, in partnership with BBC Studios and its Natural History Unit, are proud to announce the launch of BBC Earth – Micro Kingdoms: Senses for Magic Leap, the spatial computing platform.

A new groundbreaking spatial computing experience and natural history documentary narrated by Stephen Fry, BBC Earth – Micro Kingdoms: Senses brings the hidden stories of insects and arachnids into our world for the very first time.

A project that innovates upon 60 years of storytelling by the BBC Natural History Unit, the team behind globally-recognised series Planet Earth and Blue Planet, BBC Earth – Micro Kingdoms: Senses encourages users to learn about two of the planet’s smallest inhabitants.

Users can get up close to a Leaf Cutter Ant colony in the tropical rainforests of Central America and encounter a Wandering Spider in the Atlantic Forest of Eastern Brazil, and learn about the extraordinary senses which help them survive and thrive in this spatial computing experience.

Developed as part of the Magic Leap Independent Creator Program it follows 2018’s BBC Earth: Life in VR, originated and developed by the same team from BBC Studios and PRELOADED, and winner of the 2018 Google Play Award for “Best VR Experience.

Phil Stuart, Creative Director at PRELOADED, said: “With Micro Kingdoms: Senses we are proud to drive forward PRELOADED’s mission of bringing inspiring, immersive content into the hands – and now the worlds – of mainstream audiences.”

Tom Burton, Head of Interactive at BBC Studios, said: “Our mission is to inform, educate and entertain. With Micro Kingdoms – Senses and the immersive technology of Magic Leap we’re exploring new ways of engaging audiences with natural history storytelling.”

Doug Hope, Executive Producer at BBC Studios Natural History Unit, said: “This project follows a long history of us using innovative new techniques to do this. It’s about revealing something in a unique way that can better communicate the wonder of the natural world.“

Rio Caraeff, Chief Content Officer at Magic Leap, said: “In working with BBC Studios and PRELOADED we have blended the physical and digital world to bring valuable earth ecosystems into any room, giving people the chance to see, hear and feel how these animals live and survive. When we can learn by actually experiencing environments, the potential for empathy and appreciation of new worlds grows exponentially. This is the power of spatial computing.”v
