The British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) has honoured PRELOADED Creative Director, Phil Stuart, as one of the most influential people shaping the digital industry

Phil Stuart, co-founder and Creative Director of PRELOADED, has been named part of 2019’s BIMA 100, celebrating the most influential, pioneering and changemaking people in the UK’s digital industry. The honour recognises Phil as a Tech Trailblazer for his role in championing the value of play beyond entertainment across a broad range of sectors.

Phil established PRELOADED, a full-service games studio, in 2000, with the goal of creating playful and purposeful game-based experiences for people of all ages. Since then, PRELOADED has helped some of the world’s largest brands, including Google, LEGO and the BBC, empower, educate and transform behaviour.

“It’s an incredible honour to be recognised by BIMA as someone helping to shape the immersive technology industry,” Phil said. “At PRELOADED, we are dedicated to reaching mainstream audiences and legitimising emerging platforms through the creation of purposeful experiences. We are only just getting started.”

Phil recently gave his first TEDx Talk entitled ‘Games with Purpose’, a manifesto for the role of games beyond entertainment and the need to think differently about games, gamers and screen time. As a parent, he is passionate about age-appropriate design and the use of technology to enhance life rather than distract from it.

During the past 18 months, under Phil’s creative leadership, PRELOADED has focussed on bringing purpose to immersive platforms by working with WITHIN on their voice-based augmented reality (AR) story platform, exploring accessibility in AR with BBC R&D and partnering with VIVE Arts and Google VR on landmark factual experiences. Currently, PRELOADED is working with Magic Leap to develop a mixed-reality educational experience for the Magic Leap One, a lightweight, wearable spatial computer that seamlessly blends the digital and physical worlds.

Phil also serves on the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Games Committee and was the driving force behind the introduction of their newest category: Games Beyond Entertainment. He also sits on BIMA’s Immersive Council, designed to help the wider industry understand the possibilities of immersive technologies, set best practice and develop an ever evolving suite of case studies.
