Doctor Who

BBC

Goals

The Doctor Who website is one of the most successful TV programmes for the BBC, with a regular viewing audience of 8 million.

The website had increasingly become a victim of its own success, becoming large, unwieldy and difficult to navigate. It also needed a facelift to bring it in line with the redefined brand values for the new series.

Solution

Working with the new BBC guidelines and the team at BBC Wales, we decided on a two pronged attack. Firstly, we looked at the structure of the site, rearranging the site architecture and applying it to make for a much smoother user experience.

We developed a number of key ‘landing’ pages which we then redesigned to work with the new look Doctor Who TV series.

From there we looked at how to restructure the existing content for it to make more sense and fit together better, which was quite a feat considering there are some twelve thousand pages to order.

Results

The site continues to be an ever growing and exciting portal for all things Doctor Who in an easy to navigate and clearly signposted way. Still massively popular with fans old and new, the site won’t need to regenerate for a while, even if the Doctor will.
