Stop, collaborate and listen

Last year was a real benchmark for us at Preloaded. We took a step back, looked at how we were working and who we were working with, and changed a lot of things to improve our positioning and the way we did things.

The results of that process mean that 2010 is all set up to be a great year for us. We've got a brand new website and won four major projects at the end of last year, all of which will be challenging, exciting and creatively fruitful. We are equipped to carry them out more efficiently and effectively than ever before. We're excited, and so are our clients.

One of the biggest changes we've made is the relationships we have with our clients. We don't work for them any more - we work with them. It sounds like a really small thing, but as a way of working, its a seismic change. No more master servant relationships. No more pure production. We're not saying there isn't a place for that kind of development work, it's just not at Preloaded. We are a creative bunch who all have a passion to create the best work we can with the best in the business. As budgets grow and the ambition of our projects increase, we have to work more collaboratively for the best results. Together we're stronger.

The most important part of that collaboration is at the start. Getting the vision, strategic approach and creative solution right all requires teamwork. Our clients want to be involved in that development, and so do we. Sounds obvious doesn't it? Funny how easy is is not to do. There isn't just one way of doing it of course - it couldn't be that simple.

Every project is different and every client relationship is unique - the people involved, the knowledge of the subject, the aims of the project are different every time, so our collaborative process is flexible. We listen to our clients, figure out how they want to work, and make sure we fit into that. We also tell them how we work, how to get the best out of us, and how to make sure a project goes as well as possible. A great project is all about total transparency, clarity and communication.

And it's not just our clients we collaborate with in this way. The creative teams we collaborate with are key to the success of our projects too - whether they be illustrators, animators or historians. Sure, we set the brief, but everyone has a say and gives input into everything we do. It works really well and everyone plays to their strengths - and great work follows.

Two of our most successful projects of last year were the results of deep collaboration across the board, 1066 with Channel 4 and Myths with BBC Wales.

2010 is our year of collaboration. All our clients are on board and we're looking forward to making some more award winning work.
